Yellow Stainers (agaricus xanthodermus)
Speaking of agarics, here are some yellow stainers (agaricus xanthodermus) I found last summer. Yellow stainers can be identified by the immediate chrome yellow colour that appears when they’re cut or bruised. Yellow stainers are poisonous, and superficially very similar to some edible mushrooms, so care must be taken when gathering agarics to eat.
Horse mushrooms (agaricus arvensis) also bruise yellow when cut, but not as immediately, and not when cut through the very base of the stem.
